Brief Biography
I am currently a Research Analyst with Ada County Juvenile Services and an Adjunct Professor in Political Science at Boise State University. I have over 15 years experience in the youth civic engagement field. During my time at Arsalyn, I developed many strong connections within the youth civic engagement community and implemented a number of exciting programs. My chief focus was finding new means to strengthen youth civic engagement and voluntarism by empowering young people in the decision making processes within their civic engagement organizations. I received my B.A. in Political Science at the University of Nevada, Reno, earned an MBA with a focus in Marketing and Market Research at California State Polytechnic, Pomona and am a Ph.D. Candidate in American Politics and Mass Behavior at the University of California, Riverside.
In the past I have volunteered in state and local political campaigns and am an active member of several civic engagement organizations and committees. I am an active member of the planning committee for the annual Los Angeles County Constitution Day Conference. I am a Past President of the Southern California Social Science Association, serve on the steering committee for the California Civic Mission of Schools, am an advisory board member for Action Civics Los Angeles, and have been an advisory board member on the California Task Force on K-12 Civic Learning. I partnered with the Center for Civic Education on their Citizens, Not Spectators lesson plans and have facilitated an ongoing partnership with USC's CALIS program sponsoring their Arsalyn Policy Seminars.
During my tenure with the Arsalyn Program, I expanded the scope and size of its Democracy in Action program, increased the number of high school youth clubs Arsalyn sponsors throughout Southern California, and expanded Arsalyn's role as a vital partner in the youth civic engagement field.
